My Speaking Engagements | Presentations

Dr. Howell presented a CE workshop at the 3rd Annual Couples and Family Workshop at the Florida School of Professional Psychology in July 2014.
Dr. Howell co-organized Difficult Dialogues: Expanding the Conversation, the First Annual Florida School of Professional Psychology Diversity Summit. It was held on November 1, 2013. 
Dr. Howell chaired a symposium at the 2013 APA Convention in Honolulu, Hawaii.  He was also a discussant on a symposium about anti-gay bullying and sponsored two accepted student posters for the convention.
Dr. Howell presented a CE workshop on working with GLBTQQ clients at the Florida Psychological Association annual conference in July 2013.
Dr. Howell was an invited lecturer for USF-Tampa on Wednesday, February 20, 2013.  He discussed same-sex couples and nuances when working with gay couples with a Couple and Family course.
Dr. Howell co-presented with Samantha Brustad (one of his students) at the 2nd Annual Florida School of Professional Psychology Couples and Family Conference in July 2012. They provided a CE workshop on working with same-sex couples.
Dr. Howell presented at the Florida Psychological Association Conference in St. Pete, Florida on Saturday, June 23, 2012.  The presentation addressed gay youth, bullying, suicide and homophobia.
Dr. Howell wrote the foreward for The Rock and The Ripe play and recently spoke at the play in Chicago.  If you are interested in having the production in a location near you, please contact Dr. Howell.  This was an amazing play about gay youth and suicide.  It was powerful, moving and is a definite conversation starter for all.  Press kits will be available soon. 
Dr. Howell organized the 2nd Annual IPA LGBTQ Youth Symposium at the Annual Convention in November 2011 and was among the presenters at the event.

Dr. Howell spoke about anti-LGBTQ Bullying at Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital on May 20, 2011 from 11:00am - 12:30pm.

Dr. Howell presented a CEU Workshop at Oakton Community College on April 7, 2011 (8:30a-4:30p)  

Issues and Concerns for Mental Health Professionals Working with Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning Clients

This program explored gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (GLBTQQ) issues and concerns for therapists and clinicians providing treatment to a diverse and marginalized population.   The workshop addressed the need to offer a safe and unbiased setting for clients beginning to explore their sexuality or those dealing with population-specific treatments issues (coming out process, internalized homophobia, gay developmental models, roles or religion/spirituality and the implication it has on being GLBTQQ, lack of familial/social support, and issues of inequality.  This presentation focused on historical information regarding GLBTQQ research and explore current trends in treatment for GLBTQQ clients.

Dr. Howell organized the LGBTQ Panel Discussion at the Adler School of Professional Psychology on October 20, 2010.  Just under 90 people attended the event to hear various professionals dialogue about the rise in LGBTQ Youth Suicide, Anti-gay Bullying and Homophobia.
